Cathedral Organ Restored - A weekend of Celebration

St Albans Abbey, 6/7 June 2009

On 6 and 7 June we celebrated the restoration of the Harrison & Harrison organ at St Albans Cathedral.

Over the course of that weekend we marked the return of the great organ after 18 months absence during which it has been completely restored and developed by the original builders. Full details of the events for the weekend are set out below.
Restored organ 2
Restored organ 1 The work undertaken by Harrison and Harrison has included important tonal enhancements, the construction of a new four manual console, full finishing of the organ cases with new façade pipes, new soundboards and full releathering of the wind system. At the same time, preparations have been put in place for a new Nave division which it is planned to install when funding allows. We are particularly pleased to have been able to bring to fruition the vision which Peter Hurford had for the instrument when he contributed to its design over 45 years ago.
