Area Chamber Choir at St Albans Abbey

October 2009

Cathedral

The Area Chamber Choir was busy on 24th and 25th October, singing the services in St Albans Abbey. 28 singers drawn from 15 parishes joined together to sing Saturday Evensong and Choral Eucharist on Sunday morning under the direction of Area Chairman, Christopher Muhley. Claire Cousens was the organist.

This being at the start of half term, a number of our regular singers were unable to be with us, however new recruits were welcomed and the result was a balanced ensemble.

Music on the Saturday included Byrd responses, Harwood in A flat canticles and Wood's evergreen anthem, O Thou, the central orb. At the Sunday service the setting was Ireland in C with Mozart's Ave verum corpus as the communion motet.

The choir continues to go from strength to strength, not only musically but also in its inclusiveness of singers drawn from across the Diocese and from other Christian churches. The RSCM is not the sole preserve of the C of E!

If you would like to be considered for future events, please email the new Area Chamber Choir Secretary, Helen Carter.
