St Albans Area Youth Singers Mailing List

St Albans Cathedral

The RSCM St Albans Area Youth Singers was formed in 2009 as a complement to the RSCM St Albans Area Chamber Choir. The Youth Singers is a group for experienced choristers up to the age of 18, particularly aimed at our Area and National Award Holders (Bishop’s, Dean’s and Gold). We also take less experienced singers if recommended by their choirtrainer.

Currently the group meets just once a year, at the October half term, to sing Cathedral Evensong in St Albans Abbey. We rehearse on the day only, so members are all competent sight readers, and come prepared to work hard. The day gives the opportunity, not always possible in home churches, of singing a full evensong for trebles only, using some of the wide variety of music specifically written for trebles.

Previous music has included – Responses by Stephen Darlington (3 part trebles), Washington Service by David Hogan, Canticles by Ian Wicks in Eb (written for Salisbury Cathedral School), Canticles by Dyson in C minor.

We would like to recruit more members, particularly from among our Award Holders, and of course it is excellent training for aspiring Award entrants.

Please join the mailing list by filling in the secure form below … we will then contact you when the next Event is arranged. Please also add your suggestions about the Youth Singers – repertoire, timings and dates of courses, and any other suggestions you may have.

A review of a previous course held in 2009 can be read here, including audio clips of actual services.
