Vacancy for an Organist at Essendon

St Mary the Virgin, Essendon, Hertfordshire, seeks an

Essendon is located in rural Hertfordshire between Hatfield and Hertford. It is one of a group of five very friendly, well attended, rural churches, well served by main road links.

There are three, main, morning services each month except August. During Spring to Autumn, Evensong is sung on the 4th Sunday. During August there is one service in the Group, in each church in rotation. Additional fees are payable for funerals and the country setting provides a very desirable background for weddings which also pay fees. So far this year, three couples have booked to be married at Essendon. There are opportunities to play other excellent organs at the other churches in our group. In Essendon and some of the others, there is a small choir of mixed voices supporting the worship.

St Mary’s has a fine, two manual, Willis organ which is well maintained. The service rate is as advised by the RSCM as minimum, plus fees for weddings and funerals. The PCC would, in principle, be willing for the organist to use the Church for lessons and concerts by arrangement.

This position has been created by the passing of the previous incumbent who played for us for 14 years.  It would suit a competent student, wishing to gain experience in a regular, professional setting; a musician looking for a regular and important appointment, or anyone who relishes playing a very fine instrument on a committed, regular basis.  All applicants will be warmly welcomed.
