Area Choirs Festival 2018

St Albans, Hertford & Bedford Area

Area Choirs Festival 2018

St Albans Cathedral

Saturday 13th October at 2pm for 5pm

We are pleased to confirm this keynote two-yearly event, which will be directed by Andrew Lucas, with the Cathedral Choir and Tom Winpenny as organist.

This will also be an opportunity to meet the new Director of the RSCM, Hugh Morris, who will present the Gold Awards.

All of the music will be drawn from the RSCM King of Glory, King of Peace book.  Here is a link to the music list for the Festival: http://www.rscm-stalbans.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/ACF-2018-music-list.pdf.  For those who do not already have copies, we are offering an attractive discount in conjunction with Festival bookings, and extra copies may be purchased for choir libraries.

Regional rehearsals, attendance at one of which is obligatory for participating choirs, will be held at St Andrew, Ampthill on Monday 10th September and at St Saviour, St Albans on Wednesday 12th September.  Both start at 7.30pm, finishing at 9pm, and will be directed by Chris Muhley.  On-street parking is available at both locations, and there is also limited on-site parking at St Saviour.

For younger singers who may prefer not to turn out of an evening, there is an alternative rehearsal at St Nicholas, Harpenden on Sunday 16th September from 2.30pm to 4pm, directed by Marie Price.  Parking may require more ingenuity here, so participants are advised to allow sufficient time.

Robes are not required for these rehearsals, but everyone should bring a pencil.

Copies of the music book will be available for collection at these regional rehearsals.  We hope that choir trainers may find that much of the material can be carried over into their own services around the date of the Festival, thus increasing its usefulness.  Please note that all singers attending the Festival must have individual copies of the music book.  Photocopying or sharing of copies is not permitted.

Bookings for this event are now open, and should be made using the separate booking form – click here.    Discounts are offered for bookings and payments received by Wednesday 12th September.

Certificates will be presented at the Festival to those who have gained RSCM awards since the last Festival.  A separate communication about this will follow from the Awards Officer nearer to the date of the event.

Further information will be provided to participating choirs at the rehearsals and by mail-shot once bookings have been received.  We look forward to receiving your prompt bookings.  Please also encourage parents, supporters and other friends to attend the service.

Want to Sing Regularly at St Albans Cathedral?

abbeyHere’s an opportunity to sing regularly at St Albans Cathedral. The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban PARISH SINGERS is a voluntary, auditioned, adult choir who sing at most of the 9.30 Parish Eucharist Services throughout the year, as well as at Carols on the Hour at Christmas and occasional evensongs. We sing a variety of music, but mostly traditional motets. Prospective members who are competent singers and sight readers are very welcome to come along and try us out prior to audition. Rehearsals are in the Cathedral Song School on Wednesday evenings 8-9.15pm every two to three weeks, followed by a quick drink in the White Hart opposite. The choir is very friendly and auditions, with Andrew Lucas – Master of the Music – are not onerous. Please contact the Cathedral Music Secretary, Lizzie, on 01727 890245 or by email:
