Virtual Area Choirs Festival on Saturday 17 October 2020

Our Area Choirs Festival this year will be a virtual one. We will record the music in advance and all the recordings will be edited together to form a virtual choir. Links will be provided over the next week or so, to enable you to make your recordings. The deadline for sending in recordings will be 9pm on Sunday 4 October, to allow time for editing.

Music

We have selected well known music that you may have in your library and repertoire. You are not obliged to record all the items, just as much as you wish.

Introit Cantate Domino Pitoni
Responses Smith 5 part
Psalm 122 Parish Psalter
Hymn Angel Voices Ever Singing
Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis Noble in B minor
Anthem  Wesley: Ascribe unto the Lord (to be recorded in chunks)
Hymn The day thou gavest.

For those without access to their choir libraries at present, here are links to the scores:-

Don’t start recording yet until we send you the backing tracks and conductor videos! But do have a look and see which parts you would like to take part in.

Please publicise this among your singers and friends – all are welcome to take part. We ask for a donation via gofundme of £5 per person as individuals up to a maximum of £50 per choir – no maximum number of singers. (Our main cost is the editing.) Use this link for Gofundme:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/rscm-st-albans-area-choirs-festival-2020.

If you have a soprano or alto of sufficient ability to record one of the parts of the quartet in Ascribe unto the Lord, please get in touch with Marie Price directly – Marie@theprices.co.uk . This part will be semi-chorus, one or more per part.

The Bishop of St Albans will preach, the Dean of St Albans will host the service via Zoom. Bishop’s and Dean’s Awards presentations will be made in advance and videoed for inclusion in the service. We will be asking for experienced volunteers to read the lessons – please let Marie Price know if you would like to do that. It will be via Zoom. The concluding voluntary will be played by Andrew Lucas, Master of the Music.

We do hope singers from all over our Area and beyond will take part!

Please fill in one of the forms below if you would like to take part. There is one form for adults and another for under-18s. It is important that the right form is used for under-18s because of the required parental consent. When we receive your completed form we will send you a link to the music and instructions explaining how to make the recordings and send them in.

Want to Sing Regularly at St Albans Cathedral?

abbeyHere’s an opportunity to sing regularly at St Albans Cathedral. The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban PARISH SINGERS is a voluntary, auditioned, adult choir who sing at most of the 9.30 Parish Eucharist Services throughout the year, as well as at Carols on the Hour at Christmas and occasional evensongs. We sing a variety of music, but mostly traditional motets. Prospective members who are competent singers and sight readers are very welcome to come along and try us out prior to audition. Rehearsals are in the Cathedral Song School on Wednesday evenings 8-9.15pm every two to three weeks, followed by a quick drink in the White Hart opposite. The choir is very friendly and auditions, with Andrew Lucas – Master of the Music – are not onerous. Please contact the Cathedral Music Secretary, Lizzie, on 01727 890245 or by email:
